A vinyl liner doesn't last forever. Sun, pool chemicals, and the seasons all wear it down, and it usually gives you some warning before it fails.
Fading is the first thing most owners notice. A faded liner isn't a problem on its own, but it can mean the material is getting older and less flexible.
Wrinkles and stretching are next. When a liner loses its fit, it can pull away from the wall or bunch along the floor.
Cracks and tears are more serious, especially near fittings and corners. A small tear can sometimes be patched, but several of them usually point to a liner near the end of its life.
Finally, watch the water level. If it keeps dropping, the liner is one possible cause. Plumbing is the other, so it's worth having the pool checked before you replace anything.
